This is a collection of photos of teak (wood, trees, traders, furniture, etc) that I have taken over the years.
Read more on our blog about reclaimed teak, food safety, and the challenges I faced in setting up an export business in Northern Thailand.
TeakMills is situated in Northern Thailand. It is owned and operated by engineer and designer Andre Park, a South African expat who has been living in Southeast Asia for the past five years.
At Teakmills we make salt and pepper mills (grinders) from century old reclaimed teak. The hand rails of abandoned teak houses are salvaged and skilled craftsman from Burma and Thailand turn them into elegant mills and shakers.
These rustic mills are designed to meet the needs of the food service industry: restaurants, caterers and food connoisseurs. They are robust and virtually maintenance free.
Made from fine-grain teak, our mills are non-slip and easy to use. An extra-large opening ensures hassle free re-filling, and an oversized cavity holds up to a cup and a half of pepper - almost twice as much pepper as other ten inch mills. Refills come in handy, easy-to-use plastic tubes.
In order to fulfill our aim to be Thailand’s first green teak company, we produce our mills without harming the environment. Our teak is reclaimed, our brass recycled and our packaging re-usable.
No harmful chemicals or toxic stains are used in the manufacturing of our mills, naturally ensuring that they are food safe and FDA approved. We protect our natural forests and have applied for FSC certification.
